Nick Lloyd – Composer, Musician, Sound Designer & Producer

I have been composing music for televison and other media since 2005, before that I was a busy recording engineer and music producer. My recording and production credits ranged from heavy rock to drum ‘n bass. These days I spend all my time writing and recording music for TV, Radio, Film, Promos, Idents, The Web…..the list goes on.

Versatility is the key: from hard men with big guns to pensioners comparing car insurance the music has to fit and be right on cue. I’m self motivated and creative with experience in many genres of music.

There’s an extensive selection of my work here for you to check out, either via the showreel or in detailed postings.

Welsh Tourist Board Promotion

Wordley Productions approached me to score a 5 minute film they were making on behalf of the Welsh Tourist Board. Titled ‘You Play Here’. It was a big budget shoot with helicopters and choirs, Welsh Opera Diva Sian Coffi would be featured in the video along with a male voice choir, a chamber orchestra – basically a lot of sync points to hit!! read more..»

Young Dracula

Young Dracula was a hugely popular children’s television series on CBBC, and won Best Children’s Drama in the 2008 Welsh BAFTA awards.

Directed by Joss Agnew and produced by Mia Jupp for CBBC, the first series was broadcast in 2006, and the second series concluded in early 2008.

I was commissioned by the BBC to provide the music for the second series. 13 episodes in all, the music was composed and recorded on a tight budget over a three month period, at times I was writing and recording music whilst the previous episode was being broadcast – all in all it was an exciting and hectic project. read more..»

po5t - Online Drama

From the creators of Young Dracula and Tracy Beaker, PO5T is a new teen drama that gained a sizeable cult following late in 2009 when it was first aired.

Modern, stylish, intriguing, gripping… PO5T follows five friends who are free to do whatever they want. They are in control. Flying high. No rules. Good times… or so they would have us believe…

If the trailer grabs you there’s six epsiodes to view here.

They wanted music bombastic orchestral music in the style of David Arnold (James Bond/Stargate etc) and they wanted to convey a scale or epic grandeur and excitement. No Problem I told them. As usual the music budget didn’t reflect the epic and bombastic nature of the production, but still it was time to get to work nonetheless.
The hardest part of this project was to hit all the cue points, where the music had to underline the picture – opera singers, guitarists, small chamber orchestras, rock drummers on mountain tops, guitar heros on lighthouses, male voice choirs standing at the top of dams…….each of these shots the music needed to sound as if these features were written into the music.

It took about a month to complete and it went through a lot of different edits and changes before it ended up the way you see it now. Once it went to dub it was further hacked up, but hey that’s directors for you. Still I was very pleased with the result, and the cheque for the job when it came almost took care of the coffee budget whilst doing this one.
